Only fresh understanding could save SAD from being ‘sad’
Since the announcement of Punjab Lok Sabha results, the SAD-BJP alliance in danger, is a subject of discussions at all political meetings of both the parties. The loss of Arun Jaitely from Amritsar, despite stationing of top leaders in Amritsar including Punjab BJP President Kamal Sharma, was a big blow to both the alliance parties.
Although Arun Jaitely despite his defeat of Lok Sabha seat, has been inducted in the Modi Cabinet with top most ministries of finance and defence, by virtue of his status in the party, but it has put a big question mark on the alliance of SAD-BJP in the Punjab.
The Bhartiya Janata Party leader –Balramji Dass Tandon – has given a statement – I fail to understand how the top leadership of the SAD, which is an ally of the BJP, can even think of not taking along BJP leaders for holding talks with the PM and ministers. It will send a wrong message to the Centre.

The listed factors for loss of BJP in Punjab despite Modi wave are reported to be – failure to check drug trade, skyrocketing sand and gravel prices, failure to enlighten people on property tax as a substitute of house tax, high building regularization charges, delay in VAT refund to traders and interference of halqa chiefs in administrative functioning.
Both the State and Central leadership are in no mood of separation at this stage but the circumstances are leading towards it as it could be seen from the ignoring of BJP leader while meeting the Prime Minister by Parkash Singh Badal, Chief Minister Punjab all alone. He even did not bother to share with the BJP after meeting with the PM.According to SAD, the meeting the Prime Minister on issues of State interest was the sole prerogative of chief minister Sardar Parkash Singh Badal and that the latter did not require any permission or signal from anyone for this purpose. Maheshinder Sigh Grewal, General Secretary SAD had also pointed out there was a certain decorum which needed to be observed in all coalitions.

The SAD-BJP alliance is not going well in the state and by not associating the BJP leader while visiting the PM in Delhi, could further worsen the ties. A blame-war on each other is already going on between the alliance after the Lok Sabha elections.
Frankly speaking, alliance is a group of people loyal to each other in the game of survivor. It would have been more appropriate if a joining meeting of SAD-BJP leaders could have been convened and listed the issue if not to be accompanied.

It is the massive mandate in favour of BJP at the national level in recently concluded Lok Sabha Polls and the forming of Modi Government at the Centre, has made the Punjab BJP unit on offensive mode with its alliance partner SAD in Punjab.
But, it is too early to predict the break in alliance as disturbed over the dismal performance of the alliance, which bagged only 6 of the 13 Lok Sabha seats, the party high command had formed a 7 member fact-finding committee headed by former Punjab Minister, Balramji Dass Tandon.

The youth BJP leaders are in favour of break-up while there are also chances of better and fresh understanding between the alliances to save the break-up, for keeping a pressure on SAD in the Punjab getting berths in government or posting of bureaucrats at the key-posts of its choice. However, the future of alliance now purely depends on the report of fact-finding committee.
