Kishore Kumar : A phenomenal actor, composer, lyricist, script writer and director

Kishore Kumar was known for his versatility and charismatic screen presence and was most definitely Hindi cinema’s greatest singer.
He was born in a Bengali family and was named Abhas Kumar Ganguly on birth. Ashok Kumar, Kishore Kumar’s elder brother was a big name in the industry. On his insistence Kishore Kumar joined Hindi film industry.
Kishore Kumar apart from Hindi, used to sing in many other languages like – Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati etc. He won 8 Filmfare Awards for Best Male Playback Singer and holds the record for winning the most Filmfare Awards in that category. Madhya Pradesh govt started a new award in his memory – The Kishore Kumar Award.
He started his career as a chorus singer at Bombay Talkies. He made his Bollywood debut with Shikari which released in 1946. Kishore Kumar’s elder brother, Ashok Kumar played lead role in the movie.
He won many awards for his songs. ‘Khaike Paan Banaras Wala’, ‘Pag Ghunghroo Bandh’, ‘Roop Tera Mastana’ are some of his most memorable and most popular songs.
Kishore Kumar was also a phenomenal actor, composer, lyricist, script writer and director. He will always be remembered for his role in films like Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, Padosan etc. The legendary singer passed away on October 13, 1987
