Bhagat Singh as “Revolutionary Terrorist” in book titled “Bharat Ka Swantantra Sangharsh” – raises questions over historians and govt
Ferozepur, April 27, 2016 : Mentioning of Shaheed Bhagat Singh as ‘revolutionary terrorist’ in Chapter 20, in a book titled ‘Bharat Ka Swantantra Sangharsh” – India’s Struggle for Independence – has raised a question on the work of the historians – Bipin Chadra and Mridula Mukherjee, mentions Bhagat Singh, Chandra Shekhar Azad, Surya Sen and others as “revolutionary terrorists” in Chapter 20.
Speaking to this correspondent on mobile, Yadwinder Singh – great grand children in Bhagat Singh’s family said, There were number of revolutionaries in the independence movement of India and mentioning Bhagat Singh as ‘revolutionary terrorist’ after more than six decades of independence has raised questions over the historians without going into the facts of the interest group at that time.
Yadwinder Singh sent the photo shots of the title, certain pages of the book on WhatsApp wherein the ‘terrorist’ word has been used number of times.
He pointed out that there were number of revolutionaries of the independence movement of India including Mahatama Gandhi, Chander Shekhar, Lala Lajpat Rai and so on, who too were a part of freedom movement of India then as to why Bhagat Singh is being referred to as a revolutionary terrorists in the books, who gave their lives for the freedom of the country.
He further said that it is very unfortunate that using such words for revolutionaries is an attempt to stir controversy.
Yadwinder Singh said, the government must take appropriate action to withdraw the book from Delhi University and declare Bhagat Singh and his associates – Sukhdev and Rajgur – as martyr who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of India. He too is referring the matter to the Ministry of Human Resources to intervene in the matter, to avoid any further hullaballoo on the issue.
