It is a normal tendency that when someone is offended without caring for his feelings, emotions and honesty, he tries to retaliate in the same way with a revengeful attitude with ‘Tit for Tat’.  A man has become so intolerant in his behaviour that he is least bothered even you are not nice to him irrespective of your personality as to whether you are black, white, handsome, smart, poor or even rich.

In fact, the proverbs, idioms or phrases like – Tit for Tat – are the product of rich experiences of the past and composition of words is so beautifully designed depending upon different circumstances that they become golden words having no option for any change as engraved on the stones and not written on the sand. You pick any of the phrases; you will find these qualities in each one of them.
Tit for Tat is English saying meaning – equivalent retaliation. It is also a highly effective strategy in game theory for the iterated prisoner’s dilemma. The strategy was first introduced by Anatol Rapoport in Robert Axelrod’s two tournaments, held around 1980.

One of the simplest and most effective strategies is called tit-for-tat. If someone goes back on their word then you refuse to co-operate with them in future and may even punish them, given the chance. But, if they later make restitution (undoing the damage caused by their betrayal) then the strategy resets and you go back to cooperate with them.

If someone cuts us off in traffic and we see an opportunity to punish them, we will often take it. When someone defrauds us in a business deal then we will not deal with them again, no matter how favourable the circumstances may be, and even thinking about doing so feels irrational. But those who deal fairly will be given the benefit of the doubt again and again, provided they continue to be fair.
I recollect an incident when I was stopped by the traffic police for keeping off the backlight of the scooter and on pointing out me that you too have parked to check the violation of traffic rules but there is no parking light on your vehicle also.  To this, the police officer in a taunting way uttered Uhoon….‘Tit for Tat’ and let me go.

Frankly speaking, some people say Tit for Tat is a fair play as in an organization this strategy has to be adopted in order to encourage members in an organization to secure the encompassing interests.  However, in sports, if provoked, a player subsequently responds with retaliation; if unprovoked, the player cooperates.

However, there is a need to take care of the words of Mahatma Gandhi that an eye for an eye only ends up making the whole blind.

But the problem with many of the evolved ways of thinking is that our brains use is that they are not very smart. If a loved one lets us down we may enthusiastically punish them for it, even if it was not actually their fault.

Apparently, people will forget what you have said and did to them but they will never forget how you made them feel with Tit for Tat approach which has no solution rather spoil the relations.
