Humour in words….
Humour in words….
Readers will, with good grace, agree that they do sometimes across with funny words but do get irritating, shocking as well and amusing just when they get annoying telephone water and electricity bills. Added to this, once a call was received that so and so the company is organizing a tea party to promote their product but you have to come along with your better half. When I said, what about if I don’t have, the female caller said, we don’t have any record, come with anyone. Gone are the days when there used to be a bunch of greeting cards on new year’s which has been replaced with the introduction of smartphone applications of Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, Instagram etc.
Humour of Yours Only
Once I received a card from my female colleague specially written as ‘Yours only’ but I was more surprised when I saw the same worded card at the residence of one of my colleagues. Gifting is an art and more skill is in choosing the type of gift.
TYPOGRAPHICAL MISTAKE
Once I sent a gift to one of my seniors famous for honesty and sincerity taking advantage of having come from abroad to get some personal work from him but the same was returned with thanks with a word – the bigger the gift, the higher the expectations. I still recollect when once I had a pen-pal ad posing as a female and got more than five hundred letters, all from males but one of them was funnier from one of my colleagues besides asking yes for friendship and at the end writing as – I would like to marry you too. Sometimes there is a blunder mistake in typing the correct word. Once, the typist was sent a draft to type. He instead of typing the letter to be addressed to the Chief Engineer, he typed it as Thief Engineer. Later on, he has to face the music of his seniors. In another humorous incident which I don’t forget even in my 70s when I visited one office of an architect to design a house a huge board was hanging at the entrance – If Plan A doesn’t suit you, there are 25 more alphabets.
HUMOUR IN SIGNBOARD
Normally, those who are fond of keeping pets had a board outside the house for those visitors who are afraid of dogs as – Beware of dogs but it was more surprising when a board hanging outside one house was seen as – No dogs at our home.
FRANKLY SPEAKING ABOUT GIGO-DIDO
Frankly speaking, many people asked me when I started suffixing DIDO with my name to become popular with a different pen name but when I disclosed that it has come out of GIGO – the computer-based term of ‘garbage in, garbage out’ to ‘data in date out’, I get a positive reception for making new abbreviation. There may not be any bad intention behind the words which sometimes are spoken spontaneously or written but they do bring humour in one’s life. Let us enjoy and take care also
