Now “Groupie” to replace “Selife”

A photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a
Smartphone or Webcam held in the hand or supported by a stick and
shared via social media is called “Selfie”.
Russian Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna at the age of 13 was one
of the first teenagers to take her own picture using a mirror to send to a
friend in 1914. In the letter that accompanied the photograph, she wrote,
“I took this picture of myself looking at the mirror. It was very hard as
my hands were trembling.
The first use of the word Selfie in any paper or electronic medium
appeared in an Australian internet forum on 13 September 2002. In Karl
Kruszelnicki’s ‘Dr Karl Self-Serve Science Forum’, a post by Nathan
Hope stated.
In November 2013, the word “selfie” was announced as being the “word
of the year” by the Oxford English Dictionary, which gave the word
itself an Australian origin.
Selfies have also been taken beyond Earth. Selfies taken in space include
those by astronauts, an image by NASA’s Curiosity rover of itself on
Mars, and images created by an indirect method, where a self-portrait
photograph taken on Earth is displayed on a screen on a satellite, and
captured by a camera.
Devices for holding smart phones or compact cameras called Selfie
sticks, are often used when taking a group selfie as that allows a wider,
more panoramic image capture.
Now even remote control devices are available to take selfies and groups
or one can even go for sync media shutter Bluetooth remote control to
quickly take photos of the group yourself.

Frankly speaking, the obsession for Selfie could be measured from the
fact that there had been certain untoward incidents also while clicking
the Selfie.

Now, on almost all occasion, the simple “Selfie Stick” is ensuring
independence in taking special group photo being called as “Groupie”.
The craze has reached in the rural areas too and people have started
preserving memories of various events including the visit of political
leaders and digitizing them.
