To his son Jee Milkha Singh a Golfer : Son, it is no use playing golf if you are not going to be the best. Whatever game you may play, you have to prove that nobody can beat you.
His own words : If you want to come great, you should know about the word ‘quit’. Unflinching determination and exceptional self belief can take you to the top.
The track, to me, was an open book, in which I could read the meaning and purpose of life
Words to Media at Convocation of RSD College Ferozepur : Milkha Singh sounded more upset with the sports awards system said, the Arjuna Awards are being given like ‘parshad’ while these should be awarded without any approach.
Agreeing to the Bharat Ratan award given to Sachin Tehdulkar, he pointed out that prior to this Major Dhyan Chand, the hockey legend should have been given. Rather, they should also be considered for posting as Ambassadors, Governors.
To another question, he said, the match-fixing has brought disgrace for any sportsperson to receive such awards and spoiled the image of sports. Regarding bonus Arjuna Awards, when there was NDA Govt. when Uma Bharti Central Sports Minister put my name in the list but I refused to accept the Award on seeing the list of awardee containing mostly influential persons. don’t want to have CBI inquiry and at to what I would gain?
In reply to another question about Bharat Ratna to him, he said, Milkha Singh is already Rattan in Bharat as no one has so far won the Gold Medal after him. I wish that my dream could be fulfilled to see someone to win an Olympic media in athletics during his life time.
Neither the politicians should interfere in sports nor they should participate in sports association elections. Only sportsperson should be elected as the sports administrator.
Condemning the sports infrastructure in India, India could not produce another Milkha, who could even match the international athletes, since his retirement. He blamed the politicians for this.
I could never forgot the moment, I lost in Rome Olympics neither have I forgotten the pain of partition. The youth of today, can never understand, how hard it was for someone to leave his country.
Last but not the least, I do not support any political leader or any political party. I firmly believe that a good and honest person should be elected.
