Started his career with entry in Assembly from Congress ticket in 1957 but known figure in politics under the banner of Akali Dal
Parkash Singh Badal who turned 88 on Tuesday is the oldest Chief signs of exhaustion, stammering in voice or any indication of retiring in the near future.
Badal – normally called as ‘Badal Saab’ or Senior Badal is holding regular routine meetings whosoever comes to him in official or unofficial capacity besides punctual at the scheduled programmes.
He became more popular in his third consecutive term as Chief Minister and organizing Sangat Darshan – meeting with the people at their door step on weekly basis.
Despite various odd hours in the past on account of protest by the farmers for compensation of loss of cotton crop for supply of spurious pesticides, organizing of Sarbat Khalsa by the opposition, Badal is a seasoned politicians and knows which political move is right at the particular time.
To divert the attention of people, who have short memory, started organizing Sadhbhawana Rallies in the different constituencies.
He dedicated his life for the people of Punjab and celebrated his birthday with the physically challenged persons.
Badal is seen active and sharp in his memory than the younger people around him.
Badal became Chief Patron of the Shiromani Akali Dal and maintaining a sworn alliance with the Bhartiya Janata Party.
He has agricultural background and entered into politics on elected as Sarpanch in 1947 the year of independence of India. He started his career in politics with entry to the Punjab Assembly from Congress ticket in 1957.
He left the Congress and joined the Akali Dal and remained in Punjab’s politics till date for more than six decades.
Born on December 8,1927, in Abul Khurana village near Malout in Punjab is Chief Minister Punjab for five times -1970-71, 1977-80, 1997-02, 2007-12 and 2012 onwards and Union Minister in 1977 in the Morarji Desai government for sometime.
Unfortunately, his wife Surinder Kaur, died in 2011 from Cancer. He two children – son Sukhbir and daughter Preneet. His daughter-in-law Harsimrat Badal is MP and Unin Minister for Food processing and his son-in-law Adaish Partap Singh Kairon is a Cabinet Minister in his government. Harsimrat’s younger brother Bikram Singh Majithia is also a Cabinet Minister.
Not only Badal himself, his son Sukhbir Singh Badal is Deputy Chief Minister and President Akali Dal and fully dominating the party and government affairs.
