Touching 100-year life on Feb. 28, Jagtar Singh recollects pre-partition polling experiences of Lahore
Ferozepur, February 14, 2022:
Old-timer, Jagtar Singh of village Piranwala (Basti Bhan Singh) in Ferozepur, will be completing his life century, on February 28, and has also voted first time in Pakistan in 1945, recollecting his pre-partition polling experiences of Lahore.
So far, he has used the right to franchise for more than 75 years. He is a motivational icon for the voters and physically and mentally fit at this age.
Jagtar Singh states the daily exercise and positive thoughts in mind the reasons behind his fitness. He also regularly takes part in annual senior citizens athlete events in Ferozepur and has won the number of medals of distinction, to his credit.
Stating his first voting memory, he said, the first time he voted in the village Kamaya in Lahore (Safedh Posh) – equal to the Panch of Panchayat. He said, after the partition of India and Pakistan, he has voted in Lok Sabha, Vidhan Sabha, District Parishad, Panchayat Samiti, Sarpanch, Panch besides in the Cooperative Societies and in certain bye-elections.
Jagtar Singh said I had voted only once in Pakistan as I did not have my vote before that. I have seen the ‘chehal-pehal’ outside the polling stations and I recollect there used to be a ‘langar’ of yellow color sweet rice.
Now when the Punjab Assembly elections are being held on February 20, Jagtar Singh made an appeal to the voters to must cast their vote without any fear and greed besides keeping away from drugs, to strengthen the democratic set-up of India and making the country drug free.
