Visually-impaired at Home for the Blind Ferozepur playing Chess
On New Year -2024, I visited Home for the Blind Makhu Gate, Ferozepur City, and enjoyed watching the playing of Chess by two visually-impaired inmates. Manpreet and Prem, both were enjoying, what I feel, the sighted would not enjoy. They have incurable loss of eye-sight, but the special sense among them has given them the courage to learn the art of playing Chess. With a special type of Chess board and pieces – king, rook, queen, pawn, knight, bishop in two colours, white and black for the blind people, they can recognize the colours of the pieces. Prem One of the inmates – Prem (left side in the pic) is so expert, that he has given a check-mate – to win the game, with just the first 6 moves. He has even won the National Chess Competition. They have a dark world outside but a lighted world inside. Do visit someday and encourage the blind community so that they may have a feeling being a part of the society.
