What Is Your Real Worth?

A young woman worked in a company. She was diligent, punctual, and reasonably good at her job. One day, she walked into her boss’s office and said, “Sir, I would like to resign.”

The boss looked at her and asked, “Which department do you work in?”
She replied, “Accounts.”

After a brief pause, the boss said, “Alright, I won’t accept your resignation right now. Take this money, go on a vacation for a couple of months, and then we’ll talk.”

The woman was delighted. She thought she had been given a paid break without any obligation. She made travel plans and returned to the office after nearly two and a half months.

She approached her boss again and said, “Sir, please accept my resignation now.”
The boss picked up the file, signed it, and calmly said, “Your resignation is accepted.”

Surprised, she asked, “Sir, if you had to accept it anyway, why didn’t you do it earlier?”

The boss smiled and replied, “When you left, I wasn’t sure how important you were to the organization. I thought if work stopped, files got delayed, or people started asking about you, I would immediately call you back and agree to all your conditions.”

He paused, then added,
“But it’s been over two months… and no one even mentioned your name. The work continued as usual.”

The woman stood silent—because she had just found her answer.

Frankly speaking, in life, merely doing your job is not enough. Build an identity that makes your presence meaningful. At the same time, understand that true strength lies in systems and teamwork. Enhance your value through skills, dedication, and the right attitude—so that your presence creates impact, and your absence raises questions.
